Chinese Porcelain Plate Blue Hollow Rock Prunus Kangxi Qing 18th C

  
A highly decorative and collectable example of antique Chinese export porcelain, a dinner plate decorated with a hand painted oriental floral pattern in under-glaze cobalt blue. The design in the centre of the well is the hollow blue rock peony and chrysanthemum pattern contained within a double ring border. The lip of the plate is decorated scrolled cartouches filled alternatively with a flower spray then a basket of flowers, there are four repeats of each around the edge, it has a thin brown Batavian rim. The pattern on the lip is slightly reminiscent of the Kraak porcelain style.

The underside of the lip has been freely and confidently painted with bamboo stems or grasses. The base is unmarked but has an orange tinged body to the unglazed foot rim. We believe that It dates to the early eighteenth century during the reign of the Emperor Kangxi???

The plate is 9 inches (23 cm) diameter and is 7/8 inches (2.3 cm) high, it weighs 311 grammes unpacked. It has some very minor damage: There are some nibbles the rim, probably from plate hangers. There are very minor frits to the front of the plate from manufacture.

Despite this very minor damage or imperfections it displays well and this is a most attractive item to add to a collection of antique blue and white hand painted Chinese porcelain.
