Chinese Antique Large Famille Rose Canton Porcelain Box 24k Gold Repaired LID

  
This is a lovely Chinese Antique 19th Ct. Very Large Famille Rose Canton Porcelain Octagonal Wedding Box - with 24k gold repaired cover. It has been in my grandfather's collection for many years, which he acquired during the 1950's and 1960's.

This was a special piece for him. According to my grandfather's notes. This is a Chinese export'canton famille rose','rose medallion' or'rose mandarin' very large wedding box / food box. Weight: approximately 18 lbs (8 kg). Dimensions: 10 inches (25.5 cm) tall, 13 inches (33 cm) wide.

It has a Qianlong Emperor mark on the bottom, but it may be dated mid-to-late 19th century, Tongzhi to Guangxu Period (1860's - 1890's). This is an unusually large and heavy piece, 13 inches width and 10 inches height and very heavy - almost 18 lbs.

In the'Rose Medallion' pattern, the exterior is typically enameled and gilt with a panel of royal court figures within dense foliage border surroundings. Although it is very rare to find a center piece in this massive scale, the quality of the enameling is truly exceptional.

At some point in time, the cover has been repaired using a 24K gold paste, which makes this piece even more intriguing. Please see all the pictures as part of the description.
