Antique Chinese Porcelain Kangxi period Bulbous Octagonal Teapot Blue and White
3500 "Make us an offer" Listings/. Antique Chinese Porcelain Kangxi period Bulbous Octagonal Teapot Blue and White. Porcelain decorated in underglaze cobalt blue. Teapot: Height 110 mm; Lenght 160 mm. Each of the eight surfaces of the pot and lid are decorated in reverse i. (a blue wash ground, and designs in white outlined in blue) with sprays of flowers (alternately peonies and daisies) and arabesques; the knop of the lid is almost totally blue. There is a lozenge pattern border on the rim of the lid and around the mouth. The straight spout is hexagonal in section and is decorated with stylised foliage. The handle is also of hexagonal section with the facets decorated in schematic foliage. The format and the decoration are not common.
The decoration in reverse with designs in "reserves" over a blue wash ground, appear in some examples of porcelain in the Topkapi Museum, dated at the end of the 17", early 18" centuries, which may lead us to assume, in all probability, that this set was manufactured for the Middle Eastern market.
