Late 18th Century Chinese Export Porcelain; Partial Tea Set with Tea Pot. Beautiful group of 10 late 18th century Chinese export porcelain tea wares from the same original set. The set features the restrained, classically-inspired decorative motifs popular during this era. Simply white bodies, with bands of deep blue, decorated with gilt stars and borders.
There is a horizontal oval on all of the pieces, containing an elaborate "RB" monogram. The pieces are as follows.
Barrel shaped body, with twisted handle and fruit finial. The spout has been repaired, decades ago, and the paint/clear-coat used to mask the work has started to deteriorate. Still solid and stable, but visually could use some work - even if the overcoat was peeled off, it would be an improvement. The rest of the pot is fine - no chips or cracks. The handle has some small, fine firing cracks at the base of the handle.
There is wear to the gilding. Measures 8.5 wide from spout to handle. 5 tall to the top of the finial. The body is just under 4.75 wide. Same motif as the rest of the group.
The painting is intact, with little gilt wear. The oval monogram cartouche is on both the front and back of this piece. There is a 1.5 tight hairline that runs down from the rim.The piece still has a nice ring to it. Measures 5.5" wide, and just over 2.5" high at the rim. The bowls measure 3.5" across at the rim and 2" high. All feature the same decorative motifs as the pot and bowl - the inside rims have a deeper blue border than the bowl and show two rows of gilt stars. A single oval monogram on one side, with a gilt tea leaf on the opposite side.
1 - 5 are in excellent condition. No cracks, chips or repairs.Cup #6 has a repair on the front over the monogram - looks to have been a damaged piece that was reattached and over-painted. Cup #7 has a short, tight hairline, but for some reason has some of the discolored clear coat around the front and one side.
I can see no reason for this, and it could be removed. Cup #7 has a small foot repair, and again, they've spread the clear coat over more of the piece than necessary.
