LARGE 19th C. CHINESE EXPORT ROSE MEDALLION 14 PORCELAIN CENTERPIECE BOWL
Welcome to Antiques & Moore! This listing is for a beautiful 19th Century hand painted Chinese Export Canton Rose Medallion porcelain 14 centerpiece bowl or possibly punch bowl. The interior design features three large colorful floral bouquet medallions with birds alternating with three medallions with figures around the sides. Above this decoration is a 1 1/4 wide band encircling the upper border with wide medallions of flowers alternating with colorful floral bouquets.
The center bottom of the bowl also has alternating panels of flowers and figures with a round floral medallion in the center bottom. The "famille rose" enameling is heavily applied and has fine details. This lovely centerpiece bowl is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks or repairs. There may be a couple of minor paint flakes in the enameling but we did not find any.
On the bottom inside foot ring is a slight stress crack probably from production that has a discolored spot over it. This may be a touch up of some kind for extra stabilization in case of potential future weakness in this area - we are unsure.The thin "crack" does not appear to affect the bowl in any negative way as it does not show when bowl is upright and there is no indication on the inside of the bowl of any flaw in this area. Measures 14" in diameter , 6 1/2" high and the foot ring is 6 5/8 in diameter.
