Antique CHINESE CELADON PORCELAIN FOOTED SERVING PLATE Da Qing Qian Long Fish Pattern White Blue. An original Chinese celadon porcelain serving plate, done with blue over white with images of fish swimming in and around underwater plants. We present for your consideration this Chinese footed serving plate.

Done with intricate depictions of fish (possibly Koi) swimming around a water scape filled with rocks, waves, and plants. The details are so fine one can make out the mouths, eyes, and individual scales of the fish. The plate is done with a celadon matte glaze and has raised edges.

The makers mark on the bottom (see picture) is a calligraphy mark, which identifies it as DA Qing Qianlong, although the dynasty call out is not evident. Celadon is a greenish ceramic glaze that is used on stoneware.

Celadon is used both for the glaze itself and for the item glazed. It is particularly valued in China, Korea, Thailand, and Japan. To create this ware, artisans apply a wash of slip (liquefied clay), which contains a high proportion of iron, to the body of the stoneware before glazing. The iron interacts with the glaze during the firing and colors it various shades of green.

First made in China, celadon was exported to India, Persia, and Egypt as well as most of Asia. Footed, this plate sits at 1 3/4 inches and has a diameter of 7 1/4 inches. Total weight for the piece is 1 pound, 3 ounces.

As an antique, this plate has the normal wear one would expect, although it has survived nicely overall. There are no signs of cracks, chips, or crazing that we can find. This beautiful piece of Celadon porcelain would make a great addition to anyone's collection. Note: I erased a sticker that was on the bottom, so you may see some strange coloring on the bottom.
